The vibrant streets of Cross River State are set to explode with color, music, and culture as the countdown to Carnival Calabar 2024 begins.
In a passionate address, Rt. Hon. Chief Etim Asido, the Executive Chairman of Odukpani Council, has called on the people of Odukpani to embrace the spirit of the season and showcase their rich Efik heritage during the much-anticipated Carnival Calabar 2024.
“Rediscovering the Magic of Culture, Thrills, and Unity,” this year’s event promises to be the pinnacle of cultural celebrations in Africa, bringing together millions from across the globe to witness the vibrancy of Cross River State.
Slated for December 26-30, the Carnival Calabar 2024 is an extraordinary blend of tradition, creativity, and collective joy. Featuring spectacular street parades, stunning floats, elaborate costumes, and electrifying performances, the carnival will yet again affirm its reputation as Africa’s Biggest Street Party.
In his statement, Chief Etim Asido emphasized the importance of Odukpani’s active participation, urging residents to embrace their Efikness and join the celebrations with pride. “This is our story, our culture, and our celebration. Let us come out en masse and show the world the beauty of Odukpani and the richness of our heritage,” he said.
Highlights of the carnival include the Night of Kings and Queens, where the royal grandeur of the carnival bands will take center stage, and the Bikers Carnival, a high-octane spectacle of motorcycle stunts and roaring engines. The Junior Carnival will spotlight the incredible talents of young people, while the grand finale—the Carnival Calabar Street Party—will close the festivities with an unforgettable explosion of music, lights, and dance under the starry Cross River skies.
Chief Asido’s rallying call is a reminder of the carnival’s deeper purpose: to celebrate unity, foster cultural pride, and create lasting memories. “Carnival Calabar is more than an event; it is a testament to our collective spirit and the immeasurable vibrancy of Africa.
